Entrepreneurs have taken extreme steps to stay operational, and many are deeply worried about their prospects in the coming months and beyond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">But help is out there. Federal, state and local governments, as well as communities, corporations and foundations have stepped up with financial resources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">For a small business trying to stay afloat during the shock of the coronavirus, every little bit of financial aid can have a bearing on their future.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"><\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"story-ad-1-wrapper\" class=\"css-1r07izm\">\n<div id=\"story-ad-1-slug\" class=\"css-l9onyx\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">For Amy Bass, owner of <\/span><a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.notabenepaper.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nota Bene<\/a><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">, a fine-paper boutique in Pittsburgh, her lifeline was a small loan from the Small Business Administration\u2019s Paycheck Protection Program. \u201cIt helped by getting one of my full-time employees off unemployment and paying one month\u2019s rent,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-1fanzo5 StoryBodyCompanionColumn\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">It has been a rough ride as she worked through the two-month closure. \u201cWe are now open, but pretty much all events throughout the end of the year, including holiday parties have been canceled,\u201d Ms. Bass said. \u201cIt will be a long year for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">Here\u2019s a rundown of what are available, but keep in mind that the rules continue to change.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"link-6dbd2f32\" class=\"css-ow6j0y eoo0vm40\">Small Business Administration<\/h2>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">The agency is providing grants and low-interest loans for small-business owners financially affected as a result of the coronavirus. But a warning: Demand is high, and the process may not be swift.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">The&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/funding-programs\/loans\/coronavirus-relief-options\/paycheck-protection-program\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paycheck Protection Program<\/a>&nbsp;provides a loan that is fully forgiven if the funds are used for payroll costs, interest on mortgages, rent and utilities (a portion of the forgiven amount must have been used for payroll). No collateral or personal guarantees are required. Neither the government nor lenders will charge businesses any fees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">Forgiveness is based on the employer\u2019s maintaining or quickly rehiring employees and maintaining salary levels. Forgiveness will be reduced if the full-time head count of the business declines, or if salaries and wages decrease, according to the S.B.A. website.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\">\n<div id=\"c-col-editors-picks\" class=\"css-j64t31\"><\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"story-ad-2-wrapper\" class=\"css-1r07izm\">\n<div id=\"story-ad-2\" class=\"ad story-ad-2-wrapper\" data-google-query-id=\"COCmm7LsteoCFUIYYgod5PII4w\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/29390238\/nyt\/business_5__container__\"><strong>Read on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/11\/business\/grant-loans-small-businesses.html\">The New York Times<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div id=\"story-ad-2-wrapper\" class=\"css-1r07izm\">\n<div id=\"after-story-ad-2\"><strong>More: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/06\/10\/business\/economy\/fintechs-loan-small-business.html\">What Are Fintechs and How Can They Help Small Business?<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-1fanzo5 StoryBodyCompanionColumn\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">The S.B.A.\u2019s Economic Injury Disaster Loan&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/funding-programs\/disaster-assistance\/coronavirus-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Program<\/a>&nbsp;offers an advance of up to $10,000 to provide economic relief. Applications are limited to provide loans to U.S. agricultural businesses with 500 or fewer employees. The interest rate is 3.75 percent. Loans can have repayments of up to 30 years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">The agency is also providing small businesses that have a relationship with an S.B.A. Express Lender to access a&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/funding-programs\/loans\/coronavirus-relief-options\/sba-express-bridge-loans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">bridge loan<\/a>&nbsp;of up to $25,000.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">Apply online at the S.B.A.\u2019s&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/funding-programs\/loans\/coronavirus-relief-options\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>&nbsp;or call the agency at 800-659-2955. The site has a&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sba.gov\/local-assistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">directory<\/a>&nbsp;to find its local offices.<\/p>\n<section class=\"meteredContent css-1r7ky0e\">\n<div class=\"css-1fanzo5 StoryBodyCompanionColumn\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<h2 id=\"link-2498a9d0\" class=\"css-ow6j0y eoo0vm40\">State and Local Governments<\/h2>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">They also have small-business assistance programs of their own. The New York City Department of Small Business Services, for example, can help businesses&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/nycbusiness\/article\/financing-assistance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">apply<\/a>&nbsp;for loans and other financial products. There are free small-group and one-on-one consultations to help businesses evaluate and apply for financing and access to city-sponsored special loans and grants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">In San Francisco, Mayor London N. Breed and the Office of Economic and Workforce Development recently announced the opening of the&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/sfmayor.org\/article\/mayor-london-breed-announces-expansion-financial-relief-small-businesses-impacted-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">application process<\/a>&nbsp;for $6.5 million in funds to support small businesses&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/oewd.org\/businesses-impacted-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">affected<\/a>&nbsp;by the coronavirus. This includes $1.5 million for San Francisco\u2019s Small Business Resiliency Fund grant program to provide at least 190 businesses up to $10,000 in aid. An additional $5 million is earmarked for the Hardship Emergency Loan Program (SF HELP) in the form of up to $50,000 in zero-percent interest loans to around 100 small businesses.<\/p>\n<div id=\"NYT_MAIN_CONTENT_3_REGION\" class=\"css-9tf9ac\">\n<section id=\"styln-faq-coronavirus\" class=\"css-l08pwh interactive-content interactive-size-medium\">\n<div class=\"css-17ih8de interactive-body\">\n<div id=\"g-inlineguide-id\" class=\"g-inlineguide\">\n<div class=\"g-inlineguide-container\">\n<div class=\"g-inlineguide-container-wrapper\">\n<div id=\"truncate-content\" class=\"g-inlineguide-content\">\n<div class=\"g-inlineguide-headline-group\">\n<div class=\"g-inlineguide-headline-carat\"><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">Gov. Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania recently announced a $225 million statewide<\/span><a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.pa.gov\/newsroom\/gov-wolf-announces-225-million-grant-program-for-small-businesses-impacted-by-covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&nbsp;grant program<\/a><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">&nbsp;to support small businesses that were affected by coronavirus and business-closure orders.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<aside class=\"css-ew4tgv\" aria-label=\"companion column\"><\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"story-ad-3-wrapper\" class=\"css-1r07izm\">\n<div id=\"story-ad-3-slug\" class=\"css-l9onyx\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"css-1fanzo5 StoryBodyCompanionColumn\">\n<div class=\"css-53u6y8\">\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">Check with your mayor\u2019s or governor\u2019s office for resources and updates.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"link-47310bef\" class=\"css-ow6j0y eoo0vm40\">Companies, Crowdfunding and Foundations<\/h2>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">Governments are not the only ones helping out. Foundations, websites and other entrepreneurs have jumped in. Here are some.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">Local&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/co\/small-business-coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chambers of Commerce<\/a>&nbsp;are also supporting their small-business owners. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation has a&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamberfoundation.org\/article\/financial-assistance-small-business#alabama--delaware\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">state-by-state guide<\/a>&nbsp;that outlines the different loans, grants and funds that state and local governments \u2014 as well as private organizations \u2014 are offering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\"><a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.covid19businesscenter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hello Alice<\/a>, a platform that helps entrepreneurs connect with other business owners, government resources, potential funders and mentors, is offering $10,000 grants to small businesses, supplied by Silicon Valley Bank, the eBay Foundation, UBS and other partners. The first rounds are complete, but the group will provide&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.helloalice.com\/covid-19-emergency-grant-process\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">more rounds<\/a>&nbsp;of funding through July 16.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">The&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.globalgiving.org\/redbackpackfund\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Red Backpack Fund<\/a>, which is backed by Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, is donating $5,000 grants to 1,000 female entrepreneurs. The fund is accepting applications in cycles. The most recent started June 1; future cycles will begin on July 6 and Aug. 3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">The LISC Small Business Relief&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lisc.org\/covid-19\/small-business-assistance\/small-business-relief-grants\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Grants program&nbsp;<\/a>offers up to $10,000 to small businesses affected by the coronavirus, especially entrepreneurs of color, women-owned businesses and other enterprises that don\u2019t have access to flexible, affordable capital. The program is funded by Verizon, Sam\u2019s Club and others. Its next application round is scheduled to open on June 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-158dogj evys1bk0\">GoFundMe, the fund-raising&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/small-business-relief-fundraisers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">platform<\/a>, has started the&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/c\/small-business-relief-initiative-and-fund-faqs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Small Business Relief Initiative<\/a>, partnering with Yelp, Intuit QuickBooks, Bill.com and GoDaddy to provide owners with grants and resources. GoFundMe, QuickBooks and Yelp have each donated $500,000 to the Small Business Relief&nbsp;<a class=\"css-1g7m0tk\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/smallbusinessrelieffund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fund<\/a>, and it is open for anyone to make a donation.
