Here are some suggestions to ease you into those first steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Find a place to start.<\/strong>\u00a0Make a list of what you want in the next phase of your career. Don\u2019t look for a perfect path or ideal starting point.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get things moving by taking small steps.<\/strong>\u00a0One small step may be calling someone who works in a field that appeals to you to discuss possibilities.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Silence your inner enemy.\u00a0<\/strong>Stop the negative self-talk. You got this.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ask the basic questions.<\/strong>\u00a0Dig deeper and get a clearer picture of what you truly want in your life and your options to get there.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Keep a journal.<\/strong>\u00a0Journaling is a great way to map your new career direction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get a business card.<\/strong>\u00a0A business card for what you want to do helps you to start moving in that direction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Have a mental picture of where you want to go.<\/strong>\u00a0Tape a photograph or collage to your office wall that represents what your new work life will look like.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be practical.<\/strong>\u00a0You may need to upgrade your skills and education, but take one class at a time.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Be a volunteer.<\/strong>\u00a0Check out volunteer opportunities to test the waters.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get your life in order.<\/strong>\u00a0Get physically and financially fit.
