says\u00a0Misiura\u200b. &#8220;I was like, &#8216;Wow, I want to do this again.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As her son settled in, Misiura, who lives in Minnesota,\u200b visited with Maranatha Baptist&#8217;s education department to explore her options for earning a <a class=\"\" title=\"Link: http:\/\/grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com\/best-graduate-schools\" href=\"http:\/\/grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com\/best-graduate-schools\">graduate degree<\/a>.\u200b Now, while her son pursues a bachelor&#8217;s credential, Misiura takes <a class=\"\" title=\"Link: null\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/online-education\/education\">online graduate education courses<\/a>\u200b \u2013 from the same university \u2013 at home.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It hit me that I need to prepare for empty-nesting,&#8221; says Misiura, who has four children still at home. &#8220;I do not want to come to the end of this parenting stage and wonder what in the world am I going to do?&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"ndn-video-player-2\" class=\"ndn_embed ndn_embedding ndn_embedContainer ndn-widget-embed-2 ndn_embedded\" data-config-distributor-id=\"90080\" data-config-site-section=\"ndn2_usnews\">\u00a0When children fly the nest, parents may decide to finish half-completed degrees, earn graduate credentials or take classes for pleasure.<\/div>\n<div class=\"ndn_embed ndn_embedding ndn_embedContainer ndn-widget-embed-2 ndn_embedded\" data-config-distributor-id=\"90080\" data-config-site-section=\"ndn2_usnews\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ndn_embed ndn_embedding ndn_embedContainer ndn-widget-embed-2 ndn_embedded\" data-config-distributor-id=\"90080\" data-config-site-section=\"ndn2_usnews\"><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/best-colleges\/paying-for-college\/articles\/2015\/01\/26\/college-cost-tips-for-parents-students-enrolling-together\">Read Story On U.S. News &amp; says Alisha Pendleton, associate director of the office of financial aid at New Jersey&#8217;s <a class=\"\" title=\"Link: http:\/\/colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com\/best-colleges\/thomas-edison-state-11648\" href=\"http:\/\/colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com\/best-colleges\/thomas-edison-state-11648\">Thomas Edison State College<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Over the past five years, an average of\u00a0nearly 20 percent of new students attending courses at Thomas Edison had dependents who were college aged, says Pendleton.\u200b\u200b Those parents may find themselves attending orientation, buying textbooks and setting up a university email account while their children do the same.<\/p>\n<p>Women who broke away from the workforce to raise children may feel an especially strong pull once their kids are grown, says <strong>Kerry Hannon, a\u00a0career expert and author of &#8220;Great Jobs for Everyone 50+: Finding Work That Keeps You Happy and Healthy \u2026 And Pays the Bills.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re going to see more and more of this,&#8221; <strong>Hannon says.<\/strong> &#8220;You can&#8217;t just step away to raise your kids and go back to work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While earning a credential or updating a skill\u00a0set\u200b can revitalize parents&#8217; careers, paying for both their children&#8217;s educations and their own can leave them feeling financially stretched.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You don&#8217;t want to have debt for yourself and your child, with <a class=\"\" title=\"Link: http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/best-colleges\/paying-for-college\/student-loan\/articles\/2010\/08\/17\/parent-plus-loans-frequently-asked-questions\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/best-colleges\/paying-for-college\/student-loan\/articles\/2010\/08\/17\/parent-plus-loans-frequently-asked-questions\">parent PLUS loans<\/a>\u200b or private education loans,&#8221; household attending college. When several children attend university simultaneously, the federal formula divides the <a class=\"\" title=\"Link: http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/blogs\/the-college-solution\/2010\/10\/12\/know-your-expected-family-contribution-\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usnews.com\/education\/blogs\/the-college-solution\/2010\/10\/12\/know-your-expected-family-contribution-\">expected family contribution<\/a>\u00a0among them, which can increase need-based\u00a0financial aid\u00a0for each child.<\/p>\n<p>\u200bBut\u00a0students filing the FAFSA cannot automatically count the parent among their college-bound household members, says Mark Kantrowitz, senior vice president and publisher at Edvisors, a higher education resource site.\u00a0The question itself directs students not to count parents.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, parents will have to appeal to their child&#8217;s college financial aid office to have their tuition costs taken into consideration when determining the child&#8217;s financial need.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The college will want to see proof that the parent really is enrolled in college, such as copies of paid bursar&#8217;s\u200b bills and grade reports,&#8221;
