\"market\"<\/a>You\u2019ve got a smartphone, tablet and active Twitter account? This story is not for you. But if you\u2019re a boomer job seeker or someone who just wants to stay connected to their career\u2014and you\u2019re feeling just a twinge of tech fear or uncertainty\u2014read on.<\/p>\n

First, find comfort in knowing that you\u2019re not alone.<\/p>\n

Fully 55% of boomers\u2014the generation that counts among its members\u00a0Steve Jobs<\/a>\u00a0and Bill Gates\u2014said they don\u2019t use the Internet when not at home or work, according to a November 2012 survey by consulting firm Deloitte of more than 2,100 U.S. consumers. (The survey defines boomers as those born 1947 through 1965.)<\/p>\n

This result seemed to surprise the Deloitte researchers, who wrote in their report: \u201cAre boomers really not accessing the Internet while mobile, or are they just not aware that many apps require mobile connectivity?\u201d<\/p>\n

Why can’t people spell on Twitter?<\/h3>\n

A new study by social media marketing firm Brandwatch found some discrepancies between how people communicate on social networks. Twitter, in particular, took liberties with spelling.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The survey also found that among people who own a cellphone, 71% of boomers and 90% of those born 1947 said they value their phone most for making calls.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have absolutely got to have an online profile and an online footprint,\u201d said Kerry Hannon, a Washington-based career expert and author of \u201cGreat Jobs for Everyone 50+<\/a>.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone seems to understand that they need to do these things, but there is still a keeping-it-at-arm\u2019s-length wariness,\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n
