A good first step is to identify opportunities for contract work, especially in areas that are flourishing, says Kerry Hannon, AARP\u2019s career expert and the author of\u00a0Great Jobs for Everyone 50+<\/em>. <\/a>Take health care: \u201cOne job I love is patient advocate,\u201d she says. \u201cIf you\u2019ve been in the medical field or have a good grasp on personal finances, you can help clients navigate the health care system for up to $50 an hour.\u201d<\/p>\n

And small businesses and nonprofits often need a range of services, from bookkeeping to human resources. \u201cTons of businesses can\u2019t afford to have a book\u00adkeeper full time,\u201d says Hannon. \u201cThey\u2019d love to have someone who can helicopter in for one week a month or so.\u201d —BILL HEWITT<\/p>\n
