\"\"<\/a>For many people, dreams of an early retirement are fading if not blacked out.<\/p>\n

The reality is that a lot of folks will still be working well into their senior years \u2014 if they can. A retirement survey by the Employee Benefit Research Institute found that 70 percent of American workers said they plan to work for pay even after they retire. And the age at which workers expect to retire continues to rise.<\/article>\n

\u201cThe vision of people 50-plus spending their retirement years gardening, golfing and lounging on the beach is out,\u201d says Kerry Hannon, who writes the Great Jobs for Retirees column for AARP.<\/p>\n

Hannon notes that today\u2019s retirees aren\u2019t looking for part-time supplemental work or to stave off boredom.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s different now is that baby boomers are either continuing to work much longer or approaching work not as an afterthought but as a pillar of their \u2018retirement\u2019 plans,\u201d she writes in this month\u2019s Color of Money Book Club selection, \u201cGreat Jobs for Everyone 50+: Finding Work that Keeps You Happy and Healthy\u00a0.\u2009.\u2009.\u00a0and Pays the Bills<\/a>\u201d (Wiley, $18.95).<\/p>\n
